‘TMNT Universe #5:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Well, the holidays are officially upon us, with less than a week to go before both Christmas and Chanukah have come and gone.  But what I’m especially loving about this holiday season is that even some of our favorite comic books are celebrating the spirit of the season!

New York City seems to always have the magic of Christmas upon it, and who better to take part in that magic than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!  Our heroes-in-a-half-shell just threw a major party in TMNT #65, but TMNT Universe seems to tell a different story…

This month, in TMNT Universe #5, Hun is back to his old tricks with a new gang of cronies, and this time he’s making money on dog fighting.  But Hun’s old partner, Hob, won’t let him get away with his shenanigans without putting him on the naughty list!  Or perhaps Leatherhead will take care of that…

Meanwhile, in Leonard’s own storyline, “Inside Out,” we discover what Leo was up to for the past five issues, and let’s just say that his mediation sessions can get pretty deep…

Per usual, I admire the entire team who work behind the scenes on TMNT Universe.  Chris Mowry creates an intriguing storyline that links even the ongoing series in a way that I didn’t think was possible.  And, as always, Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz always remind us of who are heroes are, and who they were always meant to be.  Throw in some stunning artwork by Michael Dialynas and Bill Sienkiewicz, as well as dark colors by Tomi Varga, and you have an amazing comic book series on your shelves!

In the meantime, here’s hoping we all have a happy holiday season with the heroes and mutanimals in all our lives…

Until next issue,
#TurtlePower
