At this point, I don’t even know how to encapsulate the story. It started out with a high school punk band wanting to play at a haunted house to attract a crowd. You got some of the haunted house horror elements, and then the creators were just like: This is boring; let’s turn the haunted house into a kaiju. It’s so bonkers and so brilliant, and I love it. This is the most punk comic I’ve read or cartoon I’ve seen since the anime, Furi Kuri. Yeah, the closest thing to this in amazing bonkers tone is Furi Kuri.
I don’t know where this is going to go. It’s so unconventional and it’s so damn thrilling to read.
Wijngaard doesn’t get to spread his wings too much in this issue, as it’s more about the shifting of chess pieces, but with the promise of what’s to come in the next issue, I have a feeling he's saving his artistic energies. Hoo-boy, things are going to go down!
