In this follow-up series, we dig deeper into his plight with a villain who wants to take their own personal darkness and hoist it upon everyone else. While the tone of this series has diverged from the original, embracing more of a Grand Guignol architecture as opposed to the Se7en-inspired serial killer ambience, those themes are still embraced and drive the story forward.
This final issue is just as fun and lively as the rest. There are no less-important plot elements, but some of those secondary story threads are tied up rather quickly and without the hoorah they perhaps deserved. It doesn’t take away from the center of the story, and that’s who these characters are to each other.
Again, the art is simply wonderful and gives us moments of splendid gore right along with a couple of truly chilling, personal moments.
I enjoy this series. I love these absolutely ridiculous characters and how much care they’re given by the creators. I’m happy to see that there will be more!
