2020 was, in many ways, the year of Star Trek. We received hours of new media content with 3 TV shows and more to come. Although we have moved to the future (narratively) in the shows, the comics have continued to focus on the past. This month, Star Trek: Voyager – Seven’s Reckoning #3 takes the reader into Voyager’s 4th season (1997-1998) with an untold tale of Seven of Nine.

This third issue focuses on Seven as she fights alongside the working class of an alien race in the struggles against their leaders. The story, written by Dave Baker and drawn by Angel Hernandez, feels very much like the TV series. The only character from the show in this chapter is Seven of Nine, and she is written very much in line with her TV iteration. References to the episode, “The Raven,” will be appreciated by any fan of Star Trek: Voyager (and Seven of Nine). The art is also very strong.

This installment is issue 3 of a four-part series.  With the exception of a couple of sentences within this issue, there is very little included to tell the audience what is going on (in terms of the previous issues). Any fan of Star Trek: Voyager (or Star Trek in general) should be able to easily follow along; however, in order to fully enjoy this issue, it’s best to read issues 1 and 2 first. If they are unavailable, a solid recommendation would be to wait until this series is collected in a trade paperback.
