Fanboy Comics Interviews ‘Bloomers’ Creator/Writer/Actor Matt Palazzolo

The following is an interview with creator/writer/actor Matt Palazzolo (Real Heroes, City Kid, You Should Meet My Son) regarding his work with the online series Bloomers and the show’s currently running Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for the production costs of Season 3.  In this interview, Fanboy Comics Managing Editor Barbra Dillon chats with Palazzolo about his plan for the third season of the show, how each new season allows for greater character evolution, the guest stars that may be appearing in the upcoming episodes, and why you should support the crowdfunding campaign for Season 3!

Barbra J. Dillon, Fanboy Comics Managing Editor: Matt, first and foremost, congratulations on the success of Bloomers! Having already released two seasons of the online series, where do you hope to take the show in its third season?

Matt Palazzolo: Thank you! For its third season, we would like to take Bloomers to uncharted territory. We want to keep the audience on their feet and laugh in all the unexpected places.

BD: With each new season, we see the development of Bloomers’ cast of characters as they continue to survive Los Angeles (and each other). What do you hope that viewers are taking away from the show?

MP: We hope the viewers think ‘Wow. This just keeps getting better.’ I feel fortunate to be working on a series with so many great actors. It means that, with each passing episode, we get to dig deeper and deeper into these characters and discover things we wouldn’t have been afforded the opportunity to find if it were a film or just one season. We hope the audience keeps seeing pieces of themselves in this show.

BD: Are you able to share any of the special guest stars that audiences may be seeing in the upcoming season?

MP: Well, we will be welcoming back Darin Brooks, Sean Hemeon, and the recent Emmy Award-winning Tim Russ. We’ll also be welcoming a few faces that the audience will definitely recognize from elsewhere. We can’t say who just yet, but we are excited. It’s really going to mix things up.

BD: Like many independent creators, you initiated a crowdfunding campaign for the project through Indiegogo. What encouraged you to use this specific fundraising method, and how has Indiegogo enabled you to provide further promotion of the project?

MP: As independent filmmakers there are only so many ways to get funding. Crowdfunding is genius, because it means you can ask all of your friends and family to chip in just a little bit to make a lot happen.

BD: For our readers who may be interested in donating to Bloomers, are there any specific donation perks that may pique our readers’ interest?

MP: Yes! Win a dinner with Tim Russ (Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager) and the rest of the cast, including Jay Ali from The Fosters. You can also become a producer, get awesome posters, DVDs, and more!

BD: When will the cast and crew begin production of Season 3, and do you have an anticipated release date?

MP: We will be shooting this fall and expect a February 2015 release.

BD: Finally, why should readers support the Indiegogo campaign for Bloomers: Season 3?

MP: Bloomers has touched lives all around the world, from India to the UK to the Middle-East to South America and on and on. We’ve been reached out to by Muslim girls who are excited to see a positive representation of themselves, people who relate to our pregnancy storylines, people thrilled by all our LGBT storylines, and so forth. I love supporting shows simply to help artists express themselves, but it’s even more meaningful when you know their art is touching hearts.
