Fanbase Press Interviews Geovanni Flores on the Continuation of the ‘Decapolis’ Comic Book Series

The following is an interview with comic book creator Geovanni Flores on the continuation of the comic book series, Decapolis. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Flores about revisiting the Decapolis world, his approach to the creative process, what he hopes that audiences will take away from the story, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: We previously chatted regarding the release of your comic book series, Decapolis.  In light of the recent release of Issue #2 of the series, would you mind refreshing our readers’ memory on its premise?

Geovanni Flores: Sure! Decapolis Issue #1 establishes the world and the players of the story. As the plot continues to develop, we see what is truly at stake. Fayth, the city’s greatest hero, is called to assist with a terrorist crisis in North Africa, leaving his allies to deal with a case of serial killings that might have been perpetrated by a 500-year-old immortal. While Fayth tries to keep the peace in North Africa, his friends are left to discover who is behind the murders in Decapolis.

BD: What can you share with us about your creative process in revisiting the Decapolis world with your creative team for Issue #2?

GF: As with all my stories, I am both the creator and writer. So, it always starts with an idea that I have that I want to turn into a story. Sometimes, I draw the story myself. Prelude Issue #2 is one of those occasions where I get to illustrate the book; however, for issue #2, I have handed over the coloring chores to the fantastic Guilherme Lindemberg from Brazil. This is allowing me to move faster with the line art, and the writing, for the following chapters. I will be drawing issue #3, and afterwards, I am handing over the line art to someone else.

BD: What do you hope that readers will take away from your work?

GF: I hope that they can enjoy a story that is fun, thrilling, deep and that will never betray their trust. That is, if fans are going to invest their time and money, I hope to make it worth their while.

BD: You recently mentioned that you have crafted 3 in-universe stories, along with the first two issues.  What can you tell us about these standalone stories?

GF: These stories build on the main story. It allows the readers to discover more about the characters. It also introduces other characters that might not be present in the main story. Even better, it also allows me to have some fantastic illustrators drawn my scripts. The creative energy that comes from such collaborations is hard to explain. All I can say is that this only enhances the world that I have created.

BD: Are there any upcoming projects on which you are currently working that you would like to share with our readers?

GF: For the near future, I am working on Prelude to Bathory Chapters 3 and 4 at the same time and completing the remainder three chapters of the short-story, “Great Power.” “Great Power” is illustrated by renowned Argentinian artist Eleonora Kortsarz and colored by me with gouache.

For the slightly far future, I am working on my own version of A Christmas Carol meets Dante’s Inferno.

BD: Lastly, what is the best way for our readers to find more information about Decapolis?

GF: Faythstudios.com would be the place to go, as the books are on sale there, along with bundles of great, free, content.
