Wonder Woman Wednesday: Wonder Woman V Harley Quinn?

We had Batman V Superman to varying degrees of success… so why not Wonder Woman V Harley Quinn?

Despite the numbers, I’m still not sure if Suicide Squad was a hit or not. Sadly, I feel we’ve fallen into that lose, lose situation. People love DC Comics and its legendary stable of characters and stories so much that they (we) are willing to invest our time and our money in anything that DC brings to the silver screen – like it or not.

DC is making money – not Marvel Money, mind you – but money nonetheless. It’s not uncommon for a decent movie to have a superior sequel (X-Men and Star Wars come to mind), but what if you have a successful crappy movie? Do you follow it up with a superior sequel or a mediocre part 2?

I say you break the chain at some point. Do something different. Do something daring.

So, Harley Quinn is arguably the best part of Suicide Squad (despite alleged mishandling of the dysfunctional, co-dependent relationship between Joker and HQ), and the Wonder Woman trailer is the best “film” DC has put out so far… So, is anyone else thinking of a Harley Quinn/Wonder Woman Thelma and Louise-style buddy pic (minus the suicide swan song Grand Canyon finale, naturally)?

Before you think I’m cray… too late? Hear me out.

DC has the absolute luxury of being able to do whatever the hell it wants. Now that I think of it, that may be the thing that lands them in hot water ALL THE TIME. DC, in comics and film, always does whatever the hell it wants and then scrambles due to negative fan reaction to “fix” the problem du jour. Dear DC, stop listening to fans. Just be DC – we love you! Rebirth is absolutely amazing btw.

That said, DC has an endless stable of amazing characters and has been doing brave and bold world’s finest team-ups for ages, so why not go crazy on film?

There are so many great characters who may not deserve their own films, but they could start dropping Easter eggs like a chicken with a bionic butt.

Harley and Wondy. The Hollywood pitch:

Wonder Woman responds to something going on. There’s a ruckus involving members of the Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman saves Harley Quinn from a certain death ray and a very expensive car gets trashed in the process. Wonder Woman respectfully wishes to replace the damaged car feeling responsible for its loss. (What? She’s not Superman for crying out loud!) Not only does the eccentric millionaire owner of the car want Wonder Woman to replace it, he wants her to hand deliver it – with Harley Quinn in tow. Road trip! Of course, it would be an epic cliffhanger if the owner of the car wound up being Jared Leto’s Joker.

Okay, I think I just had a geekgasm. I know the odds of a film like this happening are pretty slim, but wouldn’t it be grand?

Something tells me Gal Gadot and Margot Robbie would have phenomenal chemistry onscreen together. I, for one, would love to see Gal in a “Daddy’s Little Monster” t-shirt, and I don’t have a straight bone in my body.

Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner have proven how amazing a WW HQ pairing would be with their team up in Harley Quinn’s Little Black Book. DC would have to hire new money counters as this would be the most epic chick flick for boys ever. Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn have wildly rabid fans and cult followings. This is a movie I think possibly anyone would want to see. What are you waiting for, DC? Make it so!

I guess that’s it for another rambling week of Wonder Woman Wednesday. Please join us next week for more musings, myths, and merriment. And, as always, please like, post, and share the “I Am Wonder Fan” page on Facebook.
