Go Green!

green lantern mt 85dBy Michael Fitzgerald Troy

Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern was a clue on Jeopardy tonight. Finally, a redeeming quality! In fairness, I know the one person that actually liked Green Lantern. I would never publicly call you out, Barbra J. Dillon; don’t fret.  I do find it a little shameless that they are campaigning for an Oscar. I didn’t realize there was a best buns category.

I was thinking what a shame it was that the GL film was such a huge disappointment, since they had made him so exciting in the comics again. (Thanks mostly to the skill and enthusiasm of writer Geoff Johns.) I like the way he is depicted in the new Justice League and the way Jim Lee draws him, even if it makes me hate my ass even more. I have yet to checkout the new GL monthly. Even though Sinestro has that San Francisco in the ’70s leather daddy thing going for him, I’m not sure I am interested in him as head Green Lantern (pun intended!).

Green Lantern has been through a lot over the years: being appointed guardian of our sector, helping Green Arrow deal with his junkie sidekick, being possessed by an evil entity, being dishonored and murdered, coming back to life, having to deal with an enormous cell bill from when he was gone. Whatever. He’s been through a lot, and we have always loved him. And, we always will. Because he is a good character and it’s not easy being green.  As for Ryan Reynolds? Ah, just take your shirt off again and we’ll forgive you.

Michael Troy is a deeply superficial person. Born in the midwest in the ’70s, Michael came to Los Angeles to pursue his bi-polar career path as an actor and artist. 2005 saw the release of Michael’s first published book, Homo-Hero’s Big Book of Fun and Adventure (www.greencandypress.com). Michael has contributed to the Lady Gaga comic book from Bluewater Productions and has his hand in various other upcoming projects. Michael has performed stand-up comedy at all of the major comedy clubs in Los Angeles and is making his triumphant return to the main stage of The Comedy Store in September. Michael offers an off-beat sense of humor as the star of such youtube cult classics As The Gays on Film (www.youtube.com/fullfrontaltv), A Minute With Margot, a loving tribute to Superman legend Margot Kidder (http://www.youtube.com/user/rktcommander), and currently hosts a vlog style series Lethally Blonde over at www.monsterburg.com. Sitting alongside industry heavyweight Phil Jimenez at the “Divas and Lassoes” panel for the 2010 San Diego comic-con, Michael maintains and cherishes his “underground” status. A staunch believer in Blonde Ambition, Michael hopes his new comic about shallow blonde super heroes in Los Angeles, The Blonde Squad, will set the world on fire (or at least brighten it a bit). Check out Michael Troy and Lethally Blonde updates here!!!
