Retro Review: ‘X-Titans’

X-Titanscolor MFT

X-Titanscolor MFTI was going through some art and came across this piece I did referencing one of my all-time favorite fanboy events from the Marvel/DC Crossover, teaming up Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men with DC’s New Teen Titans. They were originally published in 1982, a time at which both titles were the best selling for their respective companies.

Forget the commercial gain, the thought of putting these two teams together was an opportunity too grand to pass up. Or at least that is what folklore would have you think of legendary artist Walt Simonson’s involvement. Apparently, after hearing Darkseid would represent as the villain for team DC that would be enough to ink the deal, throw in quintessential X-Scribe Chris Claremont, and we are well on our way to a thrill ride. Legend also alludes to a sequel that team DC would produce written by Titan’s baby daddy’s Marv Wolfman and George with The Hellfire Club serving up bad guy whoop @$$! (What I wouldn’t give to see that happen!) A sequel not to be as the up-and-down relationship of rivals and frenemies Marvel and DC Soured.

Can’t we all just get along?

With team Marvel supreme in place and Darkseid in place, it only seemed natural to have Dark Phoenix be the baddie for the Marvel side.

The eXpectation delivered with Walt’s dynamic storytelling and art and Claremont’s signature ability to write epic with characterization perfectly peppered throughout.

With Marvel now owned by Disney, who knows the fate of any future cross company crossovers. In the meantime, try digging up a copy of this hidden gem.

Michael Troy is a deeply superficial person. Born in the midwest in the ’70s, Michael came to Los Angeles to pursue his bi-polar career path as an actor and artist. 2005 saw the release of Michael’s first published book, Homo-Hero’s Big Book of Fun and Adventure (www.greencandypress.com). Michael has contributed to the Lady Gaga comic book from Bluewater Productions and has his hand in various other upcoming projects. Michael has performed stand-up comedy at all of the major comedy clubs in Los Angeles and is making his triumphant return to the main stage of The Comedy Store in September. Michael offers an off-beat sense of humor as the star of such youtube cult classics As The Gays on Film (www.youtube.com/fullfrontaltv), A Minute With Margot, a loving tribute to Superman legend Margot Kidder (http://www.youtube.com/user/rktcommander), and currently hosts a vlog style series Lethally Blonde over at www.monsterburg.com. Sitting alongside industry heavyweight Phil Jimenez at the “Divas and Lassoes” panel for the 2010 San Diego comic-con, Michael maintains and cherishes his “underground” status. A staunch believer in Blonde Ambition, Michael hopes his new comic about shallow blonde super heroes in Los Angeles, The Blonde Squad, will set the world on fire (or at least brighten it a bit). Check out Michael Troy and Lethally Blonde updates here!!!
