#CrowdfundingFridays: ‘SKRAWL #1’ and ‘Next Door’

Here at Fanbase Press, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! We hope that you will join us in giving these projects a moment of your time (and possibly your support)!

Project #1: SKRAWL #1

What it’s about
: SKRAWL is an 84+ page Comix Magazine featuring the SKRAWLLORDZ [Mark Hughes (Silverbeard), Russell Mark Olson (Gateway City; Tripwire Award Best New Talent 2018; Yancy Street Award Best UK artist 2018), Nick Prolix (Slang Pictorial), Martin Simpson (Needleman, Pipedream Comics Top 10 Indie Comics of the Year 2018), Pete Taylor (Silverbeard), and Gustaffo Vargas (Manu, Pipedream Comics Indie Comic of the Year winner, 2019)] who formed during last year’s LICAF. Guest spots include UK-indie royalty Phil Elliott (Tales from Gimbley), Rosie Packwood (Bun), Jessica Lucas (Yours, Yesterday), Matt Simmons (Bastard Galaxia), and the Cartoon Museum’s Artist-in-residence, Mark Stafford (The Bad Bad Place). To further accentuate the magazine-ness of the anthology, John Reppion (Conspiracy of Ravens) and Lucy Sullivan (Barking) will provide an illustrated short folk horror story.

The coolest backer reward:The driving principle for SKRAWL is publishing good comics. Our campaign is fairly streamlined to highlight the print mag, which backers can snag for £12.

Project #2: Next Door: A Neo-Noir Comic One-Shot

What it’s about
: Young married couple Chris and Liz just bought a new house in an “up and coming neighborhood.” When their dog starts to get loose and roam, the couple finds themselves interacting with long-time residents they’re pushing out, and what starts as a series of misunderstandings between neighbors culminates in a night of suspicion, fear, and sudden violence in ways that forces them to examine their privilege.

The coolest backer reward: I’m offering a tier for $50 called Comics Journalism 101, which includes 3 copies of the comic with all 3 interconnecting covers, a PDF of the comic, and a 30-minute Zoom call with me in which I’ll talk about my experiences with comics journalism, non-comics journalism (which is my day job), and writing.
