The Steam Engines of OzThe popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter has given a voice to independent creators and entrepreneurs throughout the world, providing them with a platform to share their projects and ideas with a larger audience.  In addition, Kickstarter has empowered audiences with the ability to lend their support to causes in which they believe. By providing individuals with the opportunity to donate their hard-earned money to specific projects in order to ensure their success, people are truly making a difference in the world around them.  For that reason, the new Kickstarter campaign for Arcana's graphic novel, The Steam Engines of Oz, is even more impactful, as it imparts a strong message about how people, regardless of where they come from, or their station in life, can affect change in a larger world.

The Stonewall RiotsBluewater Productions is one of the top publishers of independent comic books and graphic novels, often focusing on biographies of celebrities past and present.  One such biographical comic book is standing apart from the others, as Bluewater has decided to commemorate the historical event in June of 1969 that changed the face of the gay rights movement forever.  In The Stonewall Riots, scheduled for release on the 44th anniversary of the infamous New York City riots this coming June, writer Michael Troy and artist David T. Cabrera capture the events and culture leading up to the riots, the incident itself, and its historical significance as the genesis of the Gay Pride Movement.  The events at Stonewall led to riots and demonstrations that opened the dialogue and fight for the basic human rights of the homosexual community. 

The following is an interview with Max Allan Collins, acclaimed author of the recently released book Complex 90, as well as bestsellers Seduction of the Innocent and Road to PerditionComplex 90 was an unfinished "Mike Hammer" manuscript by novelist Mickey Spillane, which was recently complemeted by Collins and released for the first time since the project's original announcement in the 1960s.  To celebrate the novel's release, Fanboy Comics Managing Editor Barbra Dillon chatted with Collins about his relationship with Mickey Spillane, how his own writing was influenced by the crime novelist, and the upcoming projects on which Collins is working.

Skin Crawling ComicsThe following is an interview with the comic book writer/artist team of Gerald Rathkolb and Danielle Gransaull, who will be contributing their short story, "The Night Market," to the upcoming horror-themed anthology Skin Crawling Comics.  In this interview, Fanboy Comics Managing Editor Barbra Dillon chats with Rathkolb and Gransaull about their thoughts on the current state of the horror genre, the use of digital artwork in comics, and their hopes for the future of Skin Crawling Comics and its impact on the comic book industry.

Hosted by Strategicon, Gamex 2013 is one of California's finest gaming conventions, offering attendees the chance to play, watch, and buy a variety of board games, card games, miniatures, roleplaying, collectables, and computer games.  The convention will be open from Friday, May 24th, at noon until Monday, May 27th, at 6 p.m.

Fanboy Comics' own Kristine Chester and Atomic Robo: RPG creator Mike Olson will be at the convention and running several events (listed below).  Make sure to pre-register for the games, as spaces fill very quickly!
