Canada's first superheroine is on her way to making a big comeback, but she needs your help to succeed!  In 1941, the Canadian government banned the import of US-made luxury goods, leaving comic book fans wanting more when it came to caped crusaders.  Luckily, Canadian publishers rushed to fill the void, creating hundreds of original comic book characters. Nelvana of the Northern Lights, created by Adrian Dingle, was the best-known of this era, responsible for selling millions of comic books across the country.  Unfortunately, after World War II, none of these comic books were seen again, which is why comic book historians Hope Nicholson and Rachel Richey have launched a Kickstarter campaign to reprint Nelvana of the Northern Lights in its entirety!

When Fanboy Comics is not providing you with the latest in geek news and entertainment, the FBC staff and I hope to offer our readers a myriad of opportunities to give back to the community. We love reading comics, watching movies, and playing video games, but we are never happier than when we are able to help others in need. With Geeks Care: How You Can Help, FBC will provide you a variety of causes that would greatly appreciate your time.

Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, launched its second annual "Sound Off for Autism Speaks” earlier this week. This exciting fundraising effort gives fans the opportunity to order a limited number of custom-recorded messages from geek celebrities like Adam West, Bryan Cranston, Cher, Jack Black, Jim Parsons, Mark Hamill, Michael Dorn, Peter Dinklage, Vin Scully, and Zachary Quinto in return for a $299 donation.

Dear Fanboy Comics Readers:

Today is an exciting day for horror fans!  In light of the recent release of John Carpenter's Asylum, the new supernatural/horror comic book created by Carpenter, Sandy King, and Thomas Ian Griffith, the series' creators have generously provided us with signed copies of issues #1 and #2 to give away to our readers.

Sherlock Holmes fans, rejoice! Professor Moriarty is back for a new adventure, and you can be a part of the journey! The graphic novel series Moriarty allows readers to get to know the infamous baddy, Professor Moriarty, as he tries to reclaim his former glory, cracking new cases in a world without Sherlock. Having already published two successful volumes and a hardcover collection of stories through Image Comics, the creative team behind the series recently launched their own campaign on Kickstarter to fund a third volume.

Comic book publisher Top Cow will soon be releasing Issue #2 of Bushido, written by Rob Levin and illustrated by Studio HVE, and the publisher has been very generous to the Fanboy Comics staff. In advance of the Wednesday, October 9th, release date, we are now able to share a preview of Issue #2!

As the final countdown has begun for New York Comic-Con 2013, Titan Books is planning a plethora of exciting events and exclusive offerings for attendees to enjoy at the Titan Books booth (#2142).  Be sure to stop by and say, "Hello!" to the fine folks at Titan, if you are attending the convention this year.
