Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, launched its second annual "Sound Off for Autism Speaks” earlier this week. A few months ago, the Fanboy Comics staff received an online introduction to Siike (pronounced "Seek") Donnelly, a comic book creator and writer who survived a brain aneurysm in 2010. Forced to rebuild his speech patterns and relearn how to walk, Donnelly forged a strong will and a desire to help other brain aneurysm survivors. With his newly formed company, The Naïve Project, Donnelly seeks to publish an original graphic novel featuring art donated by 55 different artists and educational information regarding brain aneurysms, the proceeds of which will go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

Renae De Liz is many things: artist, writer, wife, and mother. The staff of Fanboy Comics was absolutely in awe of her most recent creation, Womanthology, and we have been eager to learn more about all of her upcoming projects ever since. When we learned that Renae was taken to the hospital with a very serious infection in her blood and kidneys, all the while with two little boys to take care of and no medical insurance, we knew that we wanted to help in any way that we could.

Legendary Marvel Comics artist John Romita Jr. will attempt to break the Guinness World Record on Friday, May 4, 2012, for the longest personal signing and drawing appearance at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Cafe, and it's all for charity! Romita Jr. has teamed with Heroes for Jordan and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada to raise much needed funds for Jordan Alyssa Atherton and other children diagnosed with cancer and life-threatening diseases. Ten years after he set the original record, John Romita Jr. will attempt to break his own world record with 50 hours of autograph signing and drawing for fans.

This week, veteran comic book colorist Moose Baumann (Transformers, The Flash: Rebirth, 52, Green Lantern) reached out to the comic book community in an attempt to raise money for his wife’s cancer treatment. As is the case for many freelance artists within the comic book industry, publishers do not provide health care as would a normal employer. In addition, acquiring health care when you have a pre-existing condition, like cancer, is more difficult, as providers are often unwilling to insure you. With no health care coverage and mounting medical bills nearing $90,000, Baumann is selling high quality prints of his incredible work for only $20.00 each.
