In this week's edition of Geeks Care: How You Can Help, I would like to call attention to the Raising My SuperKids mobile social media game project, which came into existence with the mission to raise awareness and funds for various causes in the US and around the world.  Created by Alain Nguyen and Social Media Applications, LLC, a dedicated organization and team with over 30 years of game development experience, Raising My SuperKids is a new, free-to-play mobile social game that allows you to help charitable foundations and other causes raise money online simply by playing.  In order to make this game a reality, Social Media Applications has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds to fully create the application, and they have also named J.C. Lee (daughter of Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee) as the Honorary Chairwoman of the project.

Happy New Year, Fanboy Comics readers!  As 2015 is already off and running, the FBC staff is eager to bring you its weekly listing of amazing and worthwhile organizations and events that offer opportunities to give back to your community.  In the first Geeks Care: How You Can Help installment of the year, we once again shine a spotlight on the fine folks at Blastoff Comics, a top-of-the-line comic book shop in North Hollywood, CA. Blastoff stocks both current comics and graphic novels, as well as an astonishing collection of vintage comics for sale, providing customers with rarities that they just cannot find anywhere else. What truly makes Blastoff and its owners, Jud Meyers and Scott Tipton, stand out is their commitment to helping others in need. A portion of all of their proceeds are donated to charity, with the recipients changing on a monthly basis. This month, Meyers and Tipton have chosen to highlight The Movember Foundation, and we want to join Blastoff Comics in educating our readers about this important organization.

In this week's installment of Geeks Care: How You Can Help, Fanboy Comics would like to highlight the incredible efforts of publisher Northwest Press, which recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for the comic book anthology series, Rise: Comics Against Bullying.  Partnering with organizations including Stand for the Silent, GLAAD, and Prism Comics, Northwest Press is endeavoring to create a comic book series that will not only feature some of the comic book industry's leading writers and artists, but the stories contained within will combat bullying through a variety of voices and tones.  Once published and printed, the comics will be distributed for FREE to Stand for the Silent, GLAAD, and Prism Comics (as well as schools and libraries) to spark conversations and provide resources for at-risk youth in an accessible and engaging format.  With the Kickstarter campaign having already launched, Fanboy Comics wants to provide its readers with information on how you can help to bring this amazing project to fruition!

This week's edition of Geeks Care: How You Can Help will focus on the great folks at Whedonopolis and Fandom Charities, non-profit organizations established for the purpose of raising funds and awareness for charitable organizations through fandom events, conventions, and other geek-related activities.  On August 9, 2014, these two great organizations will be hosting An Evening at Caritas: A Night of Karaoke to honor actor Andy Hallett.  Fans in the know will remember Hallett as the actor behind Lorne, the lovable and gentle Deathwok Clan demon on the TV show Angel who ran the karaoke bar Caritas, where all patrons - good and evil - were welcome.  The proceeds from this event will benefit Kids Need To Read, and there will also be a canned food drive to benefit SOVA Community Food and Resource Program.  The Fanboy Comics staff hopes that you will join us in celebrating the memory of Hallett while having a great time and lending your help to two incredible charitable organizations.

The focus of this week's edition of Geeks Care: How You Can Help was brought to the attention of the Fanboy Comics staff by Dave Kellett, the extremely talented creator behind the web comics Sheldon and Drive and the recent documentary STRIPPED.  Kellett is one of hundreds of cartoonists across the country to have participated in a collaborative fundraising art book to benefit Team Cul de Sac (TCDS), a fundraising effort led by professional web designer Chris Sparks in honor of his friend, Richard Thompson, the cartoonist behind the Cul de Sac comic strip. Thompson has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, and Team Cul de Sac is endeavoring to raise money and awareness for Parkinson's disease research.  Through both the purchase of the fundraising art book and the upcoming Team Cul de Sac Drink and Draw event taking place in Charlotte, NC, you can help to find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
