‘Danger Girl: Renegade #3’ – Advance Comic Book Review

The Renegade story arc has been a little slow getting started, but in Issue #3, the fun, humor, action, and excitement that make Danger Girl worth reading really come through. Sadly, the arc is nearly over.

We begin with another flashback to Abbey Chase’s past. As a young archaeologist, she helps a team find an ancient treasure, and then has to rescue them when one idiot sets off a deadly security system. Moving to the present, Abbey and her current team of rogues and ruffians have been captured by the CIA. Abbey can wipe clean not only her own record, but those of all of her traveling companions, if she helps out with a dangerous mission. Dangerous missions are her specialty, of course—she was a Danger Girl, after all—but will she take the job?

One of the things I love about Danger Girl is the balance of action and humor. This issue has guns, explosions, booby traps, and a car chase. It’s also peppered with subtle references to a variety of spy stories, from James Bond to Kingsman. And, of course, it also has Dallas, whom I like to call the Flynn Rider of the Danger Girl world. He’s probably my favorite recurring character and generally adds a note of fun and humor to the story.

This is a good, solid issue—one of the best Danger Girl comics I’ve read in a while, actually. If you haven’t been reading Danger Girl: Renegade, it would behoove you to start at the beginning and catch up. This is the issue that brings it all together. Can’t wait to see what they do in the conclusion.
