The first thing you need to know about Outcasts of Jupiter is that it does not actually take place on Jupiter. Jupiter evidently refers to a character in the world where the comic takes place. The comic is actually set in Morocco in the year 3125, which is very nearly as cool as taking place on Jupiter, if not more so.

There’s a lot going on in this comic—lots of different characters, backstories, a couple of subplots, etc.—but the main plot revolves around a group who have banded together to rescue a man named Persio from wrongful imprisonment under a corrupt regime. The story takes a while to get going, with a surprising amount of exposition at the beginning, and isn’t always easy to follow, at least at first. There’s a vast, interconnected world here that we’re thrown into with little frame of reference; however, once the story starts to heat up, things get easier to understand and a lot more interesting. The artwork also helps bring this world to life, with a lot of muted earth tones that bring out the desert setting.

There’s a lot of great potential in this comic. There’s a pretty interesting story unfolding with a vast world of possibilities for it to tap into. Outcasts of Jupiter #1 is a pretty good beginning, and I’ll be interested to see where the comic goes from here.
