‘The Clone Wars (The Jedi Who Knew Too Much)’ Review

CW Jedi Who Knew Too MuchAll I could think as this episode progressed was, “I am so not ready for this . . .” Ahsoka easily became one of my favorite characters over the series, and we all knew one day we’d start to get answers as to her absence in Revenge of the Sith, but now that it might be happening, I’m frightened it might be happening too soon.

That speaks volumes for Ahsoka’s character and Filoni’s decision to bring her into this universe. I remember when it was first announced, fanboys were in an uproar at the very idea of Anakin having his own Padawan and now here we are, five years later, and those same people fear they will be losing her. Funny how things change. For me personally, I’m excited to see them shake things up. After Tarkin was introduced a few seasons ago, I knew he would play some part in throwing a wedge between Anakin and Ahsoka. While he doesn’t specifically do anything wrong in this episode, there’s that feeling that he knows more than he’s letting on. Plus, hints of the Imperial March being played while on screen doesn’t really help his case.

While not as action packed as the last few Maul episodes, I admit that this episode had me hooked from the very beginning. I was completely immersed in the story and really felt for Ahsoka when she was set up. The only moment that felt a bit “off” to me was Ahsoka finding the key card to escape. I can’t really put it into words, but it felt sort of rushed, I guess. What followed, though, was one of the most beautifully executed action pieces the show has ever done. Ahsoka’s escape from the detention center had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The fluidity of her movements as she ran from the Clones was a stunning display of animation, to say the least. Her constant reflecting of the laser fire with her lightsabers as she continued to run was visually striking as well and made me wish we saw more stuff like this over the season. Speaking of laser fire, did we all catch Anakin’s “Set your blasters for stun. I want her alive!” line? Oh man, gave me chills.

The ending of this episode has me worried, merely for the facts I stated at the beginning of the review. This seems to be a major turning point for the show, and the ending of this arc will change the relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka forever. At least, that’s how it seems. With only two more episodes left in the season, I’m sure we’ll be getting more answers than questions as it comes to a close.
