It’s Gotham in the late 19th century, and Jonah Hex is investigating a Jack-the-Ripper-type serial killer spree with the nebbish Doctor Amadeus Arkham. The plot is thick and twisted, and the heroes aren’t heroes. It’s gritty and a western and I couldn’t be happier. The art is all details and effective crowd scenes. Barroom brawls followed by intense close-ups and neither suffer.
Pick this book up if you are a fan of a real spaghetti westerns (A Bullet for the General, Death Rides a Horse, or Once Upon a Time in the West), or if you like a good mystery (BBC’s Sherlock, 100 Bullets, or The Usual Suspects). It isn’t the first DC #1 I’ve felt strongly about getting the next issue, but it’s all of a sudden the most important.
