The New Marvel: 'Avengers Assemble'

Avengers Assemble 9 Marvel NOWThe New Marvel is a series that looks at the changes that the mega-comic empire made following the events of Avengers vs. X-Men and the impact that those changes have on the stories of Marvel NOW!  Six issues (or more) into each Marvel NOW! title, we see what our favorite characters are up to and what to keep an eye out for in the future.

Superheroes from all different walks of like, pulled together to help defend the Earth from enemies internal and stellar.  They number many, but they aren’t always needed in full force, as many missions only require the attention of a select few; however, when they’re called upon, they will answer to help keep the world safe from harm, shouting out the battle cry that makes even the most hardened villain stop in their tracks: Avengers Assemble!

Covering Issues #9-14AU

While the comic itself doesn’t focus on any specific Avengers team, it does seem to focus on some very iconic members such as those depicted in the recent 2012 film, as well as long-time member Spider-Woman.  The issues are grouped together via story arcs, with no connection between them, making the series very easy to pick up if people haven’t been reading since the beginning.  I do believe it is well written, giving a good look at the various characters that are sometimes not sufficiently given due diligence in the other Avengers lines, and that the art style is really amazing. Marvel picked a good creative team with this series, a team worthy of picking up where the originals left off.

I’m not entirely sure what the future will hold for this title, as the possibilities are endless when it comes to showing side missions and changing the roster for each story arc.  As the most recent issue has proven, they’re more than willing to show what happens in relation to main continuity situations (such as the Age of Ultron), but I don’t think they have any company-wide effects on the Marvel Universe aside from getting to know the characters.  Here’s looking forward to seeing more interesting missions from the people who save the planet’s rear end on a daily basis, even when they’ve got a day off.
