Whether it be part of her video game franchise or even the Angelina Jolie films, Lara Croft has always fought for what’s right. At least according to her.
But that’s what makes her a great role model—she has values she believes in and abides by. And the more I read her brand new comic book series from Dark Horse Comics, the more I love the world’s greatest tomb raider!
Last month, in the first issue of this exciting series, we discovered that even Lara Croft had to start at the very basic level of “raider-ship,” improving her senses to become more aware of her surroundings. Fighting another blind woman did particularly well on Lara’s hearing, skills she was able to put to good use in this month’s Tomb Raider #2. While trying to save a professor from hitmen after his discovery of an ancient magical mushroom (Come on, it’s Tomb Raider!), Lara is quick on her feet to lead an all-out chase through practically the entire comic!
As a James Bond fan who is all too familiar with chase sequences, I really enjoyed Mariko Tamaki’s script for this issue. I was so enthralled by the chase that it felt like only 2 pages had gone by before the comic book was out of pages. Phillip Sevy’s artwork is also just as detailed as his storyteller, and the same goes for the deep, earthtone colors by Michael Atiyeh. The three of these creatives minds are all too rare to ever find in the catacombs of any tomb…
But, why do I feel like the eye of the storm is just getting started for this awesome, new series?
Until next month’s adventure . . .
