‘TMNT Ongoing #48:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Ahhhh, the end of the month. You know what that means—it’s time to pay the rent, but it’s also time for the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book, and I don’t think I could get any more excited for the current ongoing storyline!

As you may have heard by now, Donatello died (Yes, died!) a few issues back, yet he is very much alive in his Metalhead body, leaving his shell barely conscious. Meanwhile, Casey Jones just fought his own father and The Purple Dragons in the fight-that-has-been-waiting-to-happen, but he wasn’t alone. His very own community came out to help Casey, showing him that family really is what you make of it, hopefully scaring The Purple Dragons away once and for all. Finally, the evil Shredder reveals to his Foot clan that he is alive and well, letting his granddaughter, Karai, in on his and Baxter Stockman’s flyborg plan to kill Master Splinter!

This month, in TMNT Ongoing #48, Eastman, Curnow, and Waltz have our heroes-in-a-half-shell on the run! With every escape, however, Stockman’s mousers and flyborgs seem to keep finding our pizza-loving friends, even after Nobody and Alopex join in on the action. But, I think the most surprise plot twist is what happens to Casey’s father, Hun, and who ends up saving him from going to jail . . .

As for our triple threat writing team, I’m glad that Master Splinter has lived to see another issue, but as I stated last month, I’ll be upset if another major character dies in this series. Regardless of what happens story-wise, at least we have artwork by Cory Smith on our side to assure us of beautiful panels each month. And, with consistent colors by Ronda Pattison, Eastman, Curnow, and Waltz have never had a better team behind one of the best comic book series on the market!

In the meantime, let’s hope our favorite talking rat can actually put his own life in the hands of his sons, the greatest teenage mutants this planet has ever seen, including one that has somehow turned into a robot—the Ninja Turtles!

Until next month,
#TurtlePower!
