Issue #2 picks up exactly where the first issue left off. Two years (or “two winters” as the apes like to call it) have passed since the ape virus started spreading across the world. Malcolm has learned that his wife Rita has been in contact with the disease. Naturally, he wants to save her, but people can’t be trusted anymore. And, when they take refuge with the wrong people, all Hell breaks loose!
Kudos to Michael Moreci for being able to tell us the story of what happened to Malcolm and his family. Thus far, this series is a beautiful image of how apes and humans are so different, yet also so alike. And, with illustrations by Dan McDaid, I don’t think you could have found a more perfect artist to draw such a dark and dangerous world. This is team work at its best!
There are important lessons to be found in this series. From the responsibility and shaping of our own futures, to the importance of never giving up on family. I look forward to learning even more life lessons in the remaining issues of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
In the meantime, as Ellen would say . . .
#BeKindToOneAnother!
