‘TMNT/Ghostbusters #1:’ Advance Comic Book Review

When my boss first posted the title for this comic book, I knew it had to be a mistake. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles AND the Ghostbusters . . . IN THE SAME STORYLINE!!! No way. These are two of my favorite childhood cartoons. Could they really work together? That’s when I realized the connection: New York City.

From the moment I opened the comic book on my iPad, I was immediately impressed. I’m not one to normally comment on cover art, but there were so many included with this comic that I couldn’t not take notice. There are too many artists to mention by name, but my particular favorite was the Heroes’ Haven cover art by Ozzy Fernandez and Tony Kordos. Slimer wearing a Turtles bandana was extremely enjoyable to me.

Finally, our story began . . . in the past!? Oh wait. Here comes a time-traveling, Turtle-hating mastermind. I won’t give away who, but let’s just say his schemes usually take years, and our mutant ninjas often get in his way. So, where do our Ghostbusters come into all of this? All with a thanks to clumsy Dr. Harold who mistakenly sends our pizza-loving heroes (along with Mrs. O’Neil and Casey Jones) to New York City–a different New York City. Next thing we know, ghosts are getting busted, and the rest of the story is history. Or rather, it’s yet to be revealed.

Kudos to writers Erik Burnham and Tom Waltz for putting these amazing characters together. I’m already looking forward to the next three issues. The art by Charles Paul Wilson III, Cory Smith, and Dan Schoening was also quite beautiful. The whole comic book really felt like a team effort. Bravo to all!

Until next issue, let’s think of all the ways Slimer could get in trouble with . . . ooze! Comment below.
