I’ve grown up defending you to other geeks who said I wasn’t a true geek, because I liked Superman and that Superman had everything handed to him. Batman had to create his powers. (Let's just ignore Batman’s HUGE inheritance that helped him create everything.) And, while not everyone may have loved the recent retelling of your tale, I think it best shows the way I have always seen you . . . a lost, scared boy who never felt like he fit in. You didn’t have any brothers or sisters, always felt different, and your body, while it had super cool “powers,” was also, sometimes, your own worst enemy. You helped me deal with my struggles, before I knew I was struggling, and to keep going. Every day my body gave out on me, I said - nope! Gotta get up and go . . . and I’d think of you in that pool with the kryptonite wrapped around his chest, fighting to get out, and as cheesy as it sounds . . . I kept plugging away. So, that is why you are Superman to me, not just all the lives you save, but your own personal endurance. And, by the way, why does NO ONE appreciate Clark Kent?! He is the funniest, sweetest, smartest, hottest dork/spaz I have ever seen, and I would marry him in a heartbeat.
Forever yours,
Christina
P.S.: Did I mention when I was five we almost met? I tried to jump off our roof, so you would rescue me and we could fly off into the sunset. My plans where thwarted; life has never been the same since.
P.P.S.: Below, you will find our photo for submission to the L.A. Times engagement announcements. I hope you appreciate my tribute to our family crest!
