Star Squad is Looking for ‘The Ready Few:’ A Hunger Games Fan Film’s Call to Arms!

Star-Squad-Johanna-propoGreetings, my fellow tributes!

With The Hunger Games feature film barely a week away from release, I know that if it doesn’t have Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Hutcherson slapped on the cover, it’s going to take a lot to grab your attention. Well, hold on to your mockingjays, because there is ANOTHER Hunger Games film in the works as we speak! I’m not talking Catching Fire; I’m talking about a feature-length fan film made by fans, for fans, with fans, which will cover unexplored events mentioned during Mockingjay, the third and final book of The Hunger Games trilogy. I’m talking about Star Squad!

MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ MOCKINGJAY!!!

Those who’ve made it through all three of Suzanne Collins’ breathtaking novels know that Star Squad (also known as Squad 451) was a special unit that was part of the rebel armies of District 13. While they were trained in combat and sharpshooting, the unit’s missions to the Capitol were accompanied by a TV crew, so that the members of Star Quad would be seen as the faces of the invasion. Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, and a number of other familiar faces served in Star Squad, with the footage providing the perfect ammunition for the propaganda war between the Capitol and District 13. In the end, many members of Star Squad are killed in action during the overthrow of the Capitol, and Katniss Everdeen, the hero of Star Squad, is put on trial when she assassinates President Coin on live television. Katniss pleads insanity and is released back to District 12. Panem eventually finds peace where the Hunger Games are nothing but a distant memory. But, how did this happen? What were the specifics?

This is the story that the feature-length fan film Star Squad seeks to answer!

Now, you know we love fans here at Fanboy Comics, so this project is right up our alley! Given that Star Squad is an unauthorized fan film, the crew is working without the hope of profits, but they are asking for donations on Indie GoGo. They’ve still got a week left to hit their goal, but they can use all of Panem’s help; be sure to stop by their site and do your part! The creators are looking to involve as many other fans as they possibly can, and everyone who donates will receive a super nifty Star Squad military patch! Donate $250 or more and you’ll get to sit in on the trial of Katniss Everdeen during filming! There are a number of other perks for contributors, so make sure to stop by Star Squad (or their Facebook page) and sign up to support ‘the ready few!’
