WTMH Jon at Magic CastleGreetings, Fanboy Comics readers!

What would Geekdom be without magic? No Merlin . . . no Hogwarts . . . no magnificent card tricks to thrill your friends . . . It would seem that Geekdom is a place that just doesn’t work without magic. Well, for those fanboys and fangirls who agree with this statement, FBC would like to bring an important and exciting Kickstarter campaign to your attention.

Friend of Fanboy Comics, Trustees Chairman of Los Angeles’ The Magic Castle, and master of the magical Jon Armstrong is involved in a new documentary called Where the Magic Happens, which focuses on those individuals who devote their lives to the craft of magic and illusion. With the opportunity to receive some awesome backer incentives like a deck of Magic Castle playing cards, a signed copy of Armstrong’s magic-themed comic book Smoke & Mirrors, or a chance to attend the red carpet premiere of Where the Magic Happens, this is the perfect Kickstarter campaign to donate to, whether you’re a a Gryffindor, a Slytherin, or a comic book sniffer. WTMH Jon at ComicCon2Subjective Films, LLC and Film For Thought, Inc. are proud to announce a new magic documentary, Where the Magic Happens, currently in production.

Geek Chic has finally found its voice in popular culture, Jon Armstrong has finally emerged. A long time comic book fan and now IDW published creator of the comic “Smoke & Mirrors”, Jon has devoted his life to pursuing a career as a magician.

For Where the Magic Happens, a new documentary about magic and life as a professional magician, we have followed Jon, one of our five protagonist, through his personal trials and triumphs, from his shows at the world famous Magic Castle in Los Angeles to his comic book’s debut at Comic-Con.

We have been filming with our subjects for over 15 months, shooting in Los Angeles at the Magic Castle, in Las Vegas and in London. The film also features interviews with world-class magicians including Lance Burton, Mac King, and Max Maven and other luminaries discussing the power and potential of magic. Viewers will get an inside look at why we can be so easily fooled, and what magic can show us about how we experience the world around us.

Our previous films have played at Sundance, Toronto, South by Southwest, Slamdance, HotDocs, and Tribeca. Previous tiles include Hood To Coast (in 390 theaters nationwide), I.O.U.S.A,. and most recently HBO’s Emmy-nominated Superheroes, along with documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4 in the UK.

WTMH Jon at ComicCon1The film is now gathering post-production funds through private investors and Kickstarter to begin editing the 200 hours of footage filmed over the previous year. A video featuring footage from the film, and the rewards available for donation can be found here.

Be sure to visit the Where the Magic Happens Kickstarter page to learn more. You can also find Where the Magic Happens on Facebook and Twitter. The campaign closes on Tuesday, February 5th, so be sure to donate soon!
