Fans of Shane and Chris Houghton’s all-ages comic book series, Reed Gunther, will be ecstatic to learn that the familial duo recently released their second trade paperback, Reed Gunther Volume 2: Monsters and Mustaches! Everyone’s favorite loud-mouthed cowboy, Reed Gunther, and his trusty bear Sterling are entangled in more hilarious adventures in this collection of Issues #6-10, which also includes lots of exciting extras like an introduction by Simpsons comic book writer Ian Boothby, Reed Gunther short stories, and fantastic sketches and pin-up art! Superheroes, monsters, and galaxies far, far away often grace the pages of comic books, but when it gets down to it, comic books are about one thing: people. So, when comic book creator Joey Esposito decided to create a new graphic novel, he skipped the capes and space ships and went straight to the heart of the funny pages. After successfully launching his last graphic novel, Footprints, through Kickstarter, he has returned to the crowd-funding forum with the upcoming graphic novel Pawn Shop: Love and Life in NYC.
Kickstarter campaigns have enabled thousands of independent creators to bring their work to a larger audience, and with so many worth projects in need of funding, it can be difficult to choose which projects to fund. Well, if having the support of Heavy Metal Magazine and Diamond Select Toys is any indication, the Kickstarter campaign for the web series Agent 88 is a sure bet.
With only 12 days remaining in their campaign to reach their goal of $88,000, Agent 88 creators Digger T. Mesch of Dig Deep Entertainment and Producer Jan Utstein-O'Neill of Hurricane Entertainment have good reason to be excited by their web series. For those unfamiliar with the project, Agent 88 is a web series that introduces the world's most deadly poster assassin: an 88-year-old British woman with Alzheimer's disease. In this odd-ball, kung fu epic described by the creators as Kill Bill meets Mr. Magoo, London theatre actress Kay D'Arcy (Criminal Minds) will star under the guest direction of director/producer Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, Grimm Fairy Tales).
As the Managing Editor of Fanboy Comics, I have the distinct honor and privilege to work with amazingly talented individuals throughout geek culture: actors, writers, artists, directors, photographers . . . the list is endless. With the popularity of YA dystopia literature like The Hunger Games taking the world by storm, the Fanboy Comics crew attended Hungry for Dystopia, a panel discussing what attracts today's authors to totalitarian futures, the inspirations behind dystopian themes, and the possible solutions offered within their stories. The panel featured authors Neal Shusterman (Unwind trilogy), Lissa Price (Starters), Paolo Bacigalupi (The Drowned Cities), Michael Grant (BZRK), Daniel H. Wilson (Amped), Gennifer Albin (Crewel), and Marie Lu (Legend trilogy), and it was moderated by Anna North (America Pacifica).
At San Diego Comic-Con 2012, leading animation studio Klasky Csupo provided Fanboy Comics with a sneak preview of their new digital slate for the upcoming year, and fans of their previous properties like Rugrats, Aaahh! Real Monsters, Rocket Power, and The Wild Thornberrys will be very excited by the eclectic group of projects. With 20 never-before-seen pilots, a digital comic book, and a multi-platform web series, Klasky Csupo has big things in the works for fans of all ages. Announcements regarding the digital properties and the studio's new digital division will be shared with Comic-Con fans at the company's 5:00 p.m. panel.

A few months ago, the Fanboy Comics staff received an online introduction to Siike (pronounced "Seek") Donnelly, a comic book creator and writer who survived a brain aneurysm in 2010. Forced to rebuild his speech patterns and relearn how to walk, Donnelly forged a strong will and a desire to help other brain aneurysm survivors. With his newly formed company, The Naïve Project, Donnelly seeks to publish an original graphic novel featuring art donated by 55 different artists and educational information regarding brain aneurysms, the proceeds of which will go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.
Indie comic book publisher Bleeding Ink Productions recently announced that they will be launching a new comic mini-series entitled Blood-Moon, and the FBC staff and I could not be more excited!
First and foremost, Bleeding Ink Productions is an exciting new indie comic book publisher based in Hollywood, CA. Founded by writer/creator Jesse Grillo, the company seeks to “ . . . create unique, hardline stories that stand out from anything you’ve ever read.” Previous titles include Chapel, War Zone, Sensory Distortion, Demigods, and Patriot, all penned by Grillo.
With the release of Peter Jackson's higly anticipated film adaptation of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on the horizon, there is no better time to check out Bluewater Productions' latest bio comic, Orbit: J.R.R. Tolkien: The True Lord of the Rings. Written by authors Michael Lent and Brian McCarthy and with pencils by Luis Chichon, Orbit provides an interesting look into Tolkien's background and influences, as well as his inspirations for his genre classics.

Renae De Liz is many things: artist, writer, wife, and mother. The staff of Fanboy Comics was absolutely in awe of her most recent creation, Womanthology, and we have been eager to learn more about all of her upcoming projects ever since. When we learned that Renae was taken to the hospital with a very serious infection in her blood and kidneys, all the while with two little boys to take care of and no medical insurance, we knew that we wanted to help in any way that we could.
