The latest installment of Geeks Care: How You Can Help highlights the fine folks at Cool Cats Comics and Cards, a new comic book shop in Los Angeles, CA. Cool Cats stocks a wide variety of comics from publishers like Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, and Dark Horse, but they are also staunch supporters of local, independent creators. They also have a large selection of original comic book art on display!
If you are a fan of Steampunk, The X-Files, and great comic books, then you will not want to miss the Kickstarter campaign for Boston Metaphysical Society, an indie comic book series that combines all things sci-fi, action/adventure, Steampunk, and supernatural to make one heck of a great story! Series creator Madeleine Holly-Rosing has already released three issues of the thrilling adventure series, but she needs your help to finish the last three issues of the mini-series and print all six issues in a trade paperback.
The characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the various reincarnations of Star Trek are no strangers to the apocalypse. In fact, one may argue that there are no better individuals with which to surround yourself when the apocalypse does arrive! That is exactly what writers/comedians Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine have done in their upcoming feature-length film, Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse. Written by and starring Diani and Devine, the project is an apocalyptic comedy in the spirit of the old Bob Hope and Bing Crosby “Road” movies about two struggling comedians who discover that surviving the apocalypse is almost as difficult as surviving in Hollywood. The dynamic duo will be appearing alongside Buffy and Star Trek alums including Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Harry Groener (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dear John), and Kitty Swink (Star Trek, Nikki and Nora), as well as fan favorites like Janet Varney (The Legend of Korra), Dawn Didawick (Hart of Dixie, Erin Brockovich), and Barry Bostwick (Rocky Horror Picture Show, Spin City).
In order to make this indie film a reality, the filmmakers launched their own Kickstarter campaign today to raise the necessary production costs for the film, and they need your help!

In 1941, the Canadian government banned the import of US-made luxury goods, leaving comic book fans wanting more when it came to caped crusaders. Luckily, Canadian publishers rushed to fill the void, creating hundreds of original comic book characters. Nelvana of the Northern Lights, created by Adrian Dingle, was the best-known of this era, responsible for selling millions of comic books across the country. Unfortunately, after World War II, none of these comic books were seen again, which is why comic book historians Hope Nicholson and Rachel Richey have launched a Kickstarter campaign to reprint Nelvana of the Northern Lights in its entirety!

Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, launched its second annual "Sound Off for Autism Speaks” earlier this week.
