Last month, I was very excited to have found Karma Police, a fantastic, creator-owned series from ComiXology's Comics Experience that is overflowing with stellar writing, beautiful illustrations and coloring, and a phenomenal cast of characters.  Written by Chris Lewis (Drones), illustrated by Tony Gregori, colored by Jasen Smith, and lettered by Nic J. Shaw, Karma Police exists as a four-issue mini-series with a solid story arc that is equal parts humorous, action packed, and heartfelt.  On the heels of the series' trade paperback release, I eagerly finished the remaining three issues and devoured every thrilling moment!

As part of ComiXology's Comics Experience, independent comic book creators everywhere are finding a new way to hone their artistic abilities and publish their creator-owned titles through both traditional platforms and digital distribution.  One such title is Karma Police which tells the tale of a Buddhist monk who is tasked with removing those from existence who are causing suffering to others.  Sounds pretty tranquil, right?  If you're imagining a serene story of reincarnation and mindfulness complemented by a certain Radiohead soundtrack of the same titular name . . . you would be totally underestimating the incredible fun and excitement of this fantastic, creator-owned series!  Written by Chris Lewis (Drones), illustrated by Tony Gregori, colored by Jasen Smith, and lettered by Nic J. Shaw, Karma Police mixes the old-school revenge vibe of Master of the Flying Guillotine with the lighthearted, funny, and supernatural nature of The Real Ghostbusters.

Antaeus Theatre Company recently launched its 2016 season with Caryl Churchill's Cloud 9, unequivocally demonstrating to audiences that its cooperative theatre ensemble intends to break free of boundaries and examine deeply ingrained social inequities with admirable intentionality.  Antaeus and director Casey Stangl rightfully recognize Cloud 9 as a truly great contemporary play, allowing this latest interpretation to not only reflect on the social influences of the time when it was written, but also to speak volumes as to how those same influences still resonate today and what that means for our future.  Through a zestful, yet affecting, performance, Antaeus' cast of supremely talented players envelops the audience in two very different worlds, casting light on the disparities and parallels of social change, then and now.

When Fanboy Comics is not providing you with the latest in geek news and entertainment, the FBC staff hopes to offer our readers a myriad of opportunities to give back to the community. We love reading comics, watching movies, and playing video games, but we are never happier than when we are able to help others in need. With Geeks Care: How You Can Help, FBC will provide you a variety of causes that would greatly appreciate your time.

This week's edition of Geeks Care: How You Can Help highlights not one, but two fantastic organizations, each of which is doing their part to give back to their geeky communities. Fanboy Comics is excited to introduce Groupees.com and Extreme Justice League to its readers.  Groupees offers its customers comic book, video game, music, and charity bundle campaigns that collect donations for non-profit organizations, while Extreme Justice League is a San Diego-based organization that was formed to take a proactive stance against violent crime and to empower its community to get involved.  On behalf of Fanboy Comics, I hope that you'll join me in learning more about these worthwhile groups!
