Geeks Care: How You Can Help Best Friends Animal Society, CATFE, and NKLA Pet Adoption Center

When Fanboy Comics is not providing you with the latest in geek news and entertainment, the FBC staff hopes to offer our readers a myriad of opportunities to give back to the community. We love reading comics, watching movies, and playing video games, but we are never happier than when we are able to help others in need. With Geeks Care: How You Can Help, FBC will provide you a variety of causes that would greatly appreciate your time.

For many of our Fanboy Comics readers, the love of a furry companion can brighten your day, ease your worries, or simply give you that wonderful warm-and-fuzzy feeling when you need it most.  Our pets mean the world to us, and their mere presence can affect our day by leaps and bounds.  For that reason, this week’s installment of Geeks Care: How You Can Help will focus on CATFE, the cat café phenomenon that is taking the world by storm by combining the rescue of stray cats with a comfy coffee wonderland.  In conjunction with Best Friends Animal Society and NKLA Pet Adoption Center, CATFE will be coming to Los Angeles on April 10, 2015, for a one-day, pop-up celebration that will offer delicious coffee and the chance to take home a new forever feline.

CATFE’s mission is to save all stray cats while providing a fun place to enjoy coffee, acting as both a café and a cat rescue center.  On April 10th, the CATFE pop-event will provide an opportunity for those looking to take a feline friend home, as Best Friends Animal Society and NKLA Pet Adoption Center will be on hand with lots of cute cats and kittens.

The only catch?  The only way to attend is to receive a private invitation! The first 100 people who share their favorite cat photo with CATFE through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, or Instagram will receive special instructions regarding the event, including a private invitation and the location and time of the event. Due to high demand, the event is first come, first serve for invited guests.

If you are unable to attend the CATFE event, there are many other ways to donate and volunteer with these incredible organizations.  Best Friends has had a strong presence in Los Angeles since 1991, as the organization hosts innovative programs and provides support for area shelters and rescue groups, including Best Friends super adoptions, Best Friends Brigades, celebrity-driven national adoption PSAs, and a public animal help resource line.  Best Friends also partnered with the city of Los Angeles to operate the Best Friends Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center, which takes animals directly out of Los Angeles shelters and specializes in high-volume adoptions and low-cost and free spay/neuter services for area residents.  In addition, NKLA is an initiative led by Best Friends Animal Society that brings together passionate individuals, city shelters, and an entire coalition of animal welfare organizations to end the killing of dogs and cats in shelters throughout Los Angeles by the year 2017.

For those interested in making a donation or getting involved with these organizations, readers may visit the organizations official websites. You can also find and adopt a new pet directly from the Best Friends website!
