Homes for Our Troops is "a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2004 that is strongly committed to building specially adapted homes for the over 1700 service members nationwide who have returned home with life-altering injuries post 9/11. These veterans are among the nation’s most severely injured with missing limbs, varying levels of paralysis, and traumatic brain injury. HFOT assists these veterans and their families by raising money and providing building materials and professional labor to coordinate the construction of a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently. Homes for Our Troops provides these homes at NO COST to the veterans."
As of last month, Homes for Our Troops built 165 specially adapted homes nationwide for our veterans. At an average cost of $430,000 to construct each specially adapted home, every donation makes each home that much more of a reality for our service members and their families.
Readers interested in learning more about Homes for Our Troops or in making a direct donation may do so by visiting the organization's website. In addition, please remember that Blastoff Comics will donate a portion of their proceeds to this wonderful organization this month. If you have the opportunity, I would encourage you to stop by Blastoff, meet the incredibly personable store owners, and assist in helping both Homes for Our Troops and local business owners by picking up a few comics. As the Blastoff website says, "Comics can make saving the world look easy." By shopping at Blastoff, it has never been easier to save the world, one comic book at a time.
If you have a volunteer opportunity or an important cause that could use the assistance of a few geeks, please email the details to barbra (at) fanboycomics.net.
