‘Loogie the Booger Genie: A Very Nasty Cold’ – Children’s Book Review

In the second installation of the Loogie the Booger Genie book series, children’s book author N.E. Castle returns with the hilarious and heartwarming book A Very Nasty Cold.  With the return of Charlie, an eight-year-old boy, and Prince Loogar (a.k.a. Loogie), the genie who lives in a tiny bottle in Charlie’s nose, the humorous and gross antics of these two characters picks up right where it left off in the first book, Prince of Prank.  This time, Charlie has caught a cold, which makes for quite a bit of trouble for his nose-dwelling genie friend.

A Very Nasty Cold follows Charlie as he falls ill with a cold, causing him to continuously rub and itch his nose, thereby unintentionally summoning Loogie quite frequently.  (As we all know, genies are called forth when we rub their lamps!)  When Loogie appears in front of Charlie’s new neighborhood friend, a series of unfortunate events and misunderstood wishes unfold, resulting in Loogie catching Charlie’s cold and mythical animals to run wild throughout the city!

Author Castle must be commended for an engaging and easy-to-read book for children.  While the gross-out jokes surrounding Prince Loogar and his living situation will keep kids laughing, there are also wonderful and educational messages throughout the book about friendship, problem solving, and responsibility.  Providing children with the opportunity to learn to love reading is always a plus in my book!

Loogie the Booger Genie: A Very Nasty Cold is now available for sale through Amazon, and I highly recommend it for readers of all ages.
