The Kickstarter Report: ‘The Guns of Shadow Valley’

The Guns of Shadow Valley

The Guns of Shadow ValleyDespite the current controversy that has surrounded the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, it should not be forgotten that there are countless campaigns for high quality (and well intentioned) projects that deserve their chance to meet and/or exceed their fundraising goals.  By that same token, there may be projects which have already succeeded in reaching their goals and are in the process of working towards their “stretch goals” due to an overwhelming amount of fan support.  With that in mind, I want to bring to your attention The Guns of Shadow Valley.

The Guns of Shadow Valley is a webcomic series of Wild West high adventure that will soon be collected into a 200-page hardcover graphic novel. Nominated in 2010 for the Eisner Award for ‘Best Digital Comic (and nominated in 2011 for the Harvey Award for ‘Best Online Comics Work’), the story follows a posse of gunmen with superhuman abilities who must come together to face a tribe of ghostly warriors, an advancing army led by a deranged Colonel, and the perils of the haunted valley itself in order to protect a secret that could forever change the face of the American frontier. Set in the late 1870s in the Oklahoma Territory, this is a tale of intrigue and adventure that puts a new spin on the Old West.

The powerhouse creative team behind the graphic novel consists of co-writer and artist Dave Wachter (Night of 1,000 Wolves, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Breath of Bones: A Tale of the Golem), co-writer James Andrew Clark (Scar Tissue, Genius J’s Technicolour Almanack of Graphical Wonderment), and letterer Thomas Mauer (Popgun, Awakening, Strange Attractors).  Having already reached its Kickstarter goal of $24,000, the graphic novel is guaranteed to print; however, there are exciting stretch goals in place, many of which will remain a mystery until their fundraising amounts are achieved!  Readers can see a sneak preview of the story and artwork in the below video!

Be sure to visit the The Guns of Shadow Valley Kickstarter page, and don’t forget to check out the backer rewards, which include hardcover copies of the graphic novel, t-shirts, and commissions for artwork by the book’s creators!  The campaign closes on Monday, July 15th, so be sure to donate soon!
