‘Colder: Toss the Bones #3’ – Advance Comic Book Review

Those that loved getting their heads twisted around in their youth by the likes of Stephen King should be running to the shelves to find Colder: Toss the Bones. Every month, I wait for the opportunity to open the first page of the newest issue by Paul Tobin and Juan Ferreyra just to see where they take me.

In my recent review of Giant Days, I mentioned how the writer and artist have a perfect synchronicity of vision, and I can say the same here. It’s like spiraling into madness. With Nimble Jack as your guide, chaos is what lights your path. Tobin and Ferreyra have a keen grasp for portraying insanity to the point in which I feel my perception warp a little bit just paging through each issue.

In this issue, Declan and Reece are confronted by the madness-inducing ways of Jack; running does no good. There’s a certain macabre glee the creators embrace with Jack that makes him like no other villain out there and makes this like no other comic on the shelf. It’s the creativity he uses to drive people mad. Pigeons are far creepier than I’d ever imagine. I’d say sit back, but I think that’s what Jack would prefer.

On top of that, the images Ferreyra leaves you with are lush and beautiful to look at, making the horrors that much more unnerving.

What a wonderful book.
