With so many big events happening in the comics world -- Marvel and DC’s pro-gay story arcs, the legal disputes between comics creators and corporations -- let’s not forget some of the most important events happening off the published page. Namely (as my loving wife reminded me), this week marked the season finale of America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion! To celebrate, we’re looking at AtomicWedgieTV’s parody, Cleveland’s Next Top Model.
Vengador is a superhero tale of vengeance written by James Gilarte and featuring the art of Rowel Roque. Vengador follows the life of teen Eric Martin, who uses his alter ego (Vengador) to fight injustice in his city that is the result of a corrupt legal system. The second issue of Vengador might not be perfect, but Gilarte and Roque do stretch their creative wings, building on their story and giving Eric Martin his first taste of revenge.
Preparing for Prometheus is a series of blogs leading up to the release of Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi feature film. Set in the same universe as Scott’s sci-fi classic, Alien, Prometheus tells the story of a team of humans who travel across the galaxy seeking the origins of humanity. Unfortunately, their search for our beginning could lead to our end...
Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen, fellow geeks, because Prometheus is just over a week away from landing. In my last blog in this series, I reviewed the various appearances of the Space Jockey (now known as “Engineers” in the Prometheus script) in the pages of Dark Horse Comics, some of the best Alien extended universe material out there. In this edition of Preparing for Prometheus, I cover every terrifying detail that I’ve been able to uncover regarding the upcoming film. Now remember, in space no one can hear your spoilers...but given that we’re not in space, here comes the warning:
POTENTIAL MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW
As an ardent webcomics fan, I have read several over the years of my life, but there are only a few that I consider my absolute favorites. One such favorite is Blue Milk Special (www.bluemilkspecial.com), a comic that parodies the original Star Wars trilogy. I recently had the chance to talk to Rod and Leanne Hannah, the creators of BMS, and they were kind enough to answer some questions for me concerning their lives. Rod did the majority of the talking, and with their permission, I have shared their thoughts and answers.
Dungeons & Dragons has come a very long way from the game that Gary Gygax played in the basement with his friends and family. In the past 30 years, it has gone through many incarnations, and, right now, it is about to evolve again. Wizards of the Coast is currently playtesting the 5th edition of D&D in a massive playtest with gaming groups all over the world. They are calling this fan feedback playtest experience D&D Next. As an avid RPGer and a game store manager, I just had to get in on this.
