Debris #1
by Kurtis J. Wiebe and Riley Rossmo

Image gives us another great new series with Debris. In this series, Wiebe and Rossmo tell the tale of Maya, a young warrior protecting the last remnants of humanity on a world covered with trash where spirits animate the debris into giant monsters. This book has a simple but effective art style that allows Rossmo to deliver strong emotion on one page and intense action on the next. Wiebe does a nice job balancing the action with the exposition needed to set up his new world. Even cooler, his awesome female action hero really lets loose and kicks some serious butt, which is always nice to see. If you like a good mix of sci-fi and fantasy with a fully clothed female protagonist (gasp!), then check out Debris!

Green Lantern #11
by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke

So, the New 52 Green Lantern book started a little shaky, but the last few issues have been awesome. Johns has crafted an incredibly interesting relationship between Sinestro and Hal Jordan that tests what really makes Jordan a hero much more than any intergalactic threat ever could. While this interesting character drama plays out, Johns reintroduces one of Hal’s most intriguing and dangerous villains, and manages to make him even scarier than ever. Even with all that Johns has going on in this issue, he still finds room to continue to build the greater Green Lantern myths and push his ongoing story arc forward, as well. This boo,k much like Justice League last week, proves just how great a writer Geoff Johns is.

X-Treme X-Men #1

You want a fun book with giant squids, floating heads, rock star superheroes, alternate dimension, and more X-Men than you can count? Then, X-Treme X-Men is the book for you. Greg Pak and Stephen Segovia bring us a totally ridiculous and awesome X-Men title. This isn’t just any X-Men, though, it’s the X-Treme X-Men, so you can expect high octane action, totally off-the-wall sci-fi, and tons of hilarious Dazzler dialogue. Yes, I said Dazzler, because the main character of this book is everyone’s favorite X-Woman, Dazzler, and she’s awesome. If you are fatigued by all the crazy event books and endless tie-ins, then read this super fun book and remember just how much fun comics can be.
