Avenging Spider-Man 9Fanboy Comics Contributor Jason Enright brings you his top comic book picks for the week.

Avenging Spider-Man #9
by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson, and Edgar Delgado

The new and improved Captain Marvel flies onto the scene this week with a guest spot in Avenging Spider-Man, and if this issue is any indication, then next week’s premiere issue of Kelly Sue DeConnick’s new series is going to be one awesome, wild ride. This story continues the flirtatious friendship between Spidey and Carol Danvers that has been hinted at in previous stories and is packed with humor, action, and superheroics. Kelly Sue does a great job establishing Carol as a very unique hero. She’s fun, brash, and tough as nails. The Dodsons really deliver on the art and capture the fun side of being a superhero. Pick this book up and pick up Captain Marvel #1 next week.

Chew: Secret Agent Poyo
by John Layman and Rob Guillory

So, Chew is one of the best books out there. It’s fun, hilarious, and it’s a really well written and illustrated comic. The only problem is it’s about 30 issues into its run, and as a new reader, you’re not sure if it’s something you’d like. Well, the fine folks who create Chew have solved this terrible conundrum for you. This week, Image releases a Chew one shot about a chicken so dangerous not even Hell can hold him: Secret Agent Poyo. This book is incredibly funny, fast-paced, and action packed. Guillory provides some of his best art in the series to date, and Layman’s writing is over the top, but perfect for this story. If you’ve wondered if Chew was worth trying out, here’s your book.

The Walking Dead #100
by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, and Cliff Rathburn

The Walking Dead has reached Issue #100, and oh boy is it a crazy issue. There’s been a lot of hype to this milestone issue with multiple covers and news coverage, but Kirkman surprises us yet again with an issue that could only come out of The Walking Dead. It’s hard to talk about without spoiling anything, so I’ll just say this: Kirkman and Adlard deliver the goods with their amazing characters, heartbreaking storylines, and intense art. I hope that they deliver us 100 more incredible issues after this, for they are truly worth all of the praise and success they have received.
