All together now . . .
This is the issue I’ve been waiting for in Rafael Albuquerque and Mike Johnson’s time traveling sci-fi romp. Things begin to come together, the first arc becoming clear in its action and scope. The slow burn that this team has been drawing out is really starting to get moving, and it feels like this series is about to take off.
Johnson has a tight grip on the many slippery timelines he’s laid out for us and closes the first loop he gave us. Playing in the 4th dimension is always a dicey sitch, and many prestigious creators have been laid low by their own missteps in the field, but this book shows the possibilities that can arise when it’s done right. Though this book doesn’t bring all the balls in the air down, the first catch has been made and we can certainly see that this is going to be one hell of a show.
Rafael Albuquerque continues to impress with his end of keeping the story straight, as well as adding tension and crisp action to the story. The timeline backgrounds keep things clear for us, and his ability to separate a flashback in a way that keeps with the tone and yet communicates so clearly without any “wavy lines” and sound effects is really superb.
With new background info adding depth to the sidelined characters and a man with his memories back ready to fight every injustice, this issue is pushing us further into the fun, crazy world that Albuquerque and Johnson have built for us. If you love Time Lords or McFly’s journey through history, this is one tale you should pick up before it’s gone.
