Tales of the Night Watchman from So What? Press is one of those diamonds in the rough in the indie comic scene, and writer David Kelly is back with another twisted caper for his superhero to solve in Tales of the Night Watchman Presents: The Mad Mind of Anton Sebaum.

MINOR SPOILERS BELOW

Tales of the Night Watchman Presents: The Mad Mind of Anton Sebaum takes place after Tales of the Night Watchman: Volume One, Issue Two and continues the arc of Nora and Charlie’s attempts to guide Serena into becoming a stand-up, productive member of society, all while battling an increase in counterfeit money at the coffee shop and the rise of a new villain who seems to have walked out of a 1950s sci-fi adventure serial.

While The Mad Mind of Anton Sebaum isn’t necessarily the best or most entertaining Night Watchman tale out there, Kelly’s knowledge of his characters and knack for smart, snappy dialogue make any issue a treat, this one included. In addition, with Anton Sebaum, Kelly has crafted a unique and interesting adversary to join the Night Watchman’s rogues gallery. With his robot army and mad scientist-like antics, Sebaum is very different from the creatures and monster the Night Watchman has faced before and comes off as a cross between a Flash Gordon villain and a maniacal mastermind from a James Bond film.

The Mad Mind of Anton Sebaum also introduces a new artist to shepherd the Night Watchman and friends through his latest adventure. Artist J. Vigants‘ inky, moody style feels more broody and mysterious than any other Night Watchman artist so far and also adds a real sense of history to the depictions of the city in this issue. Vigants is an excellent addition to the list of artists who’ve helped bring Night Watchman to life.

FINAL VERDICT: Tales of the Night Watchman is a series that I wholeheartedly recommend, so, of course, I fully recommend that you pick up a copy of Tales of the Night Watchman Presents: The Mad Mind of Anton Sebaum. Fans of supernatural mystery will love it, and my only stipulation would be to start with the first issue of the series instead of jumping on board right here with The Mad Mind of Anton Sebaum.

You can find out more about Tales of the Night Watchman Presents: The Mad Mind of Anton Sebaum, as well pre-order your copy or purchase copies of previous issues, at the official So What? Press website or on Facebook.
