Tread Perilously is a podcast in which hosts Erik Amaya and author Justin Robinson watch the “worst” episodes of popular TV shows, attempting to determine if they would continue to watch the series based on the most off-key moments.
This Week: Doctor Who‘s “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”
Tread Perilously closes out another anniversary Tread Safely month with the most recent Doctor’s debut in the Doctor Who episode, “The Woman Who Fell To Earth.”
When the newly regenerated Doctor crashes into a Sheffield-area commuter train, she interrupts an alien plot to abduct a hapless human. As the dust settles, she meets Grace, her husband Graham, her grandson Ryan, and his friend Yaz — who also happens to be a member of the local constabulary. But the introductions are put on pause as The Doctor would like to finish regenerating while determining why that hapless human was marked for destruction and who is actually pursuing him. The answers will lead The Doctor toward figuring herself out, and Grace’s ersatz family to their new destinies.
Justin and Erik get distracted by sonic screwdrivers and Star Wars. Justin admits he had a lukewarm reaction to Hot Fuzz. He also decides a radioactive spider would solve all of Ryan’s problems. Both discuss the merits of reporting an Elder God confection to the local police. Erik reveals his theoretical ending to A Song of Ice and Fire. He also recalls some of his time in Manchester. Justin declares a surprising favorite scene, and Darth Bro makes his first appearance.
