Paul and Corey Cross the Streams is a bi-monthly podcast in which hosts Paul Pakler and Corey Pepper watch and review streaming content – so you don’t have to!
This month’s theme is Criterion! Yes, the independent streaming service that features an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary films from Hollywood and around the world, many not available anywhere else. Paul is like a kid in a candy store. And this week, he chose the film, I Am Not a Witch (2017). The first feature film written and directed by Zambian-Welsh director Rungano Nyoni. The story follows a 9-year-old orphaned girl named Shula as she is accused of being a witch. The film combines whimsy, absurdist humor, beautiful cinematography, brilliant performances, and nuanced discussions of neo-imperialism and feminism.
