Fanbase Press is excited to announce that its bilingual comic book series, Quince, is receiving a second printing on the heels of its nomination for the 2018 Cybils Awards in the YA Graphic Novel category.
Quince is a 15-issue, creator-owned comic book series that follows a year in the life of Lupe, a 15-year-old girl who discovers that her quinceañera brings with it a super cool party . . . and superpowers. Emphasizing diversity, family, and female empowerment, Quince’s creative team includes sisters Kit Steinkellner (writer – Sorry for Your Loss, Z: The Beginning of Everything) and Emma Steinkellner (artist – The Okay Witch, Pow Slam Sparkle), creator Sebastian Kadlecik (Penguins vs. Possums), and translator Valeria Tranier (The Maze Runner, Friday Night Lights, Doctor Who).
The Cybils (Children’s and Young Adult Bloggers’ Literary) Awards aim to recognize the children’s and young adult authors and illustrators whose books combine the highest literary merit and popular appeal. The winners will be announced on February 14, 2019.
”It has been the honor of a lifetime being part of the Quince team, and I’m over-the-moon excited for our second printing and our Cybils nod,” notes writer Steinkellner. “We are so grateful to the librarians, journalists, bloggers, podcasters, comic store clerks, and, of course, our readers, for championing Lupe and her adventures. You guys are our superheroes!”
Creator Kadlecik also adds, “The Cybils Award nomination is such an honor. We are so thankful that they thought Quince worthy.”
Quince is the winner of the 2018 IPPY Award and has been nominated for a 2018 Eisner Award, the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity, and the Excellence in Graphic Literature Award. Quince’s second printing will feature an updated cover noting the 2018 Eisner Award nomination. The collected comic book series was originally released digitally through ComiXology, issue by issue, in English and Spanish. The collected English-language trade paperback is available for sale through Fanbase Press, Amazon, and ComiXology.
