For 9 years, Fanbase Press’ Geeky Parent Guide editorial series – helmed by Senior Contributor (and father of two) Travis Lakata – has helped parents and other caregivers to safely and positively navigate various avenues of pop culture with their children. This year, the Geeky Parent Guide will continue its efforts with a renewed focus on “Bringing Stories into Action:” not only highlighting the themes within the stories we love, but demonstrating to our children how we can apply those themes in our daily lives.
“I really want to revisit some of my favorite stories this year, and I would love to highlight why I want [my kids] Adelaide and Marshall to dig in and explore them,” notes Lakata. “As they continue to expand their entertainment horizons, I hope they find stories they can come back to because they bring such joy or allow them to find a comfortable space in those fictional worlds.”
This year’s Geeky Parent Guide installments will focus on specific media properties (from comic books to movies to TV and beyond), with each article emphasizing the themes that originally resonated with Lakata pre-parenting, as well as citing why and how those same themes might resonate with his own children. Upcoming articles will feature properties such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, A Knight’s Tale, Paper Girls, The Hunger Games, and more.
“I hope that the Geeky Parent Guide will continue to offer a place for parents to not only find great information, but to connect with each other,” notes Lakata.
The first edition of this year’s Geeky Parent Guide will be released on Thursday, February 26, 2026, on the Fanbase Press website. Subsequent editions will be released monthly.
