With the rise in censorship and book bans, the damaging effects of generative AI, and the threats of tariffs that will increase printing and publishing costs, it is more necessary than ever to be politically engaged to safeguard your and the comics industry’s well-being. To provide an opportunity for our community members to learn how they can take action and effect real, meaningful change, Fanbase Press will be hosting the virtual forum, “Get Involved in Local Politics,” on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 1 p.m./PT (4 p.m./EST).

This virtual forum will be a free Zoom session, offering a safe and respectful space to not only hear the advice of politically active individuals, but to discuss and troubleshoot how to get involved. Please note that registration is required.

Hosted by Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon, the virtual forum will include the following featured panelists:

  • Jose Pimienta (writer/illustrator – Twin Cities, Halfway to Somewhere, Suncatcher)
  • Matthew Noe (Lead Collection & Knowledge Management Librarian at Harvard Medical School, Part-Time Instructor in Library Science at the University of Kentucky)

For those unfamiliar with Fanbase Press, as a GLAAD Award-winning and Eisner and Harvey Awards-nominated comic book publisher and media outlet, Fanbase Press produces new and distinctive works, as well as daily reviews, interviews, and podcasts, that span the pop culture spectrum and give voice to the themes, ideals, and people that make geekdom so exceptional.
