Fanbase Press Heads to San Diego Comic-Con 2024 with Eisner-Nominated ‘Ripple Effects’ and ‘Quince,’ GLAAD Media Award-Winning ‘Four-Color Heroes,’ & More! Plus, Panel Programming Announced!

The Fanbase Press staff is very excited to be exhibiting at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, while also bringing you the coolest interviews, commentaries, and photos – live from the convention floor! From Wednesday, July 24, through Sunday, July 28, all of Fanbase Press’ award-winning comics, graphic novels, and merchandise will be available for sale at Small Press Table O-03. Attendees won’t want to miss the exciting panels and creator signings planned for the con of the year! And, on the eve of Fanbase Press’ 15th anniversary, we hope that you’ll stay tuned for our first-ever Kickstarter campaign for the expanded hardcover edition of our Eisner-nominated Graphic Medicine series, Ripple Effects!

Ripple Effects Deluxe Edition Kickstarter Campaign

Jordan Hart’s critically acclaimed graphic novel, Ripple Effects, has been nominated for the biggest awards in comics and now, on the eve of its 15th anniversary, GLAAD Media Award-winning publisher Fanbase Press will launch the company’s first-ever Kickstarter campaign to fund an expanded deluxe hardcover edition of the book, featuring all-new contributions from some of the biggest names in comics. Ripple Effects follows the adventures of a superhero whose invincibility is offset by an acute case of type 1 diabetes and a defective pancreas that must be monitored and treated daily. The gripping and inspirational story about living with an invisible illness is inspired by writer Jordan Hart’s own lived experience with thrombophilia, an incurable blood-clotting disease.

Ripple Effects was created, written, and colored by Jordan Hart (The Cabinet, Terminarch, Doppelgänger), illustrated by Bruno Chiroleu (El Borde, Mara and Samu), flatted by Shane Kadlecik, lettered by Oceano Ransford (Eisner Award-nominated Rikki, The Sequels, Haphaven), and features cover art by Justin C. Harder (CLAUS Studios) and a foreword by Matthew Noe (librarian, Harvard Medical School).

Striving to increase awareness and representation for individuals with invisible illnesses and disabilities, Ripple Effects: The Deluxe Edition will feature a new foreword by Eisner and Harvey Awards-winning writer Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Batgirl, Uncanny X-Men), study guides by Eisner Award nominee and educator Tim Smyth (Teaching with Comics and Graphic Novels) and comics literacy advocate Creators, Assemble!, and an art gallery which pairs youth artists who have invisible disabilities and illnesses ranging from deafness to Autism Spectrum Disorder with superstar artists including Liana Kangas, Ray-Anthony Height (Midnight Tiger), Don Aguillo (Spawn), and Manuel Martinez (DC, Marvel). The deluxe hardcover also features “Unseen Ripples” essays written by individuals with invisible disabilities and illnesses who relate Ripple Effects‘ events to their own lived experience, ranging in topic from paranoid schizophrenia to diabetes.

11:00 a.m.: Comics, Cats . . . and Turtle Bread with Kim-Joy—Celebrity baker and cookbook writer Kim-Joy (Turtle Bread, Bake Me a Cat), acclaimed writer Pornsak Pichetshote (Man’s Best, The Good Asian), award-winning manga translator and writer Zack Davisson (Kaibyo: The Supernatural Cats of Japan, Cat & Gamer), and other panelists discuss comics, pastries, and their affection for felines with Barbra Dillon of Fanbase Press. 2:00 p.m.: The Pathway to Libraries for Indie Comics—Led by Barbra Dillon (editor-in-chief, Fanbase Press), this panel—including Moni Barrette (director of collection development & publisher relations, Library Pass), Christina E. Introducing a New Era of Genre Comics—PANICK Entertainment is a new publisher dedicated to modernizing horror and sci-fi comics for readers and rattling the status quo of genre comic storytelling. Moderated by Fanbase Press’ Barbra Dillon, join industry veterans and co-founders Kris Longo (Heavy Metal, DC Comics), Adam Schlagman (DC Comics; executive producer, Shazam!), Doug Pasko (executive producer, The Outpost, Mythica 1- 5), and Chief Advisor Chris Ryall (Syzygy/Image) for the first look anywhere at their launch slate of books and projects for late 2024 and 2025, including works from Special Guests Shannon Eric Denton (founder, Monster Forge Productions), Dirk Blackman (writer, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans), Brendan Columbus (writer, Savage Circus), and Tehani Farr (artist, Conan). Cartoonist Lonnie Millsap will be at Small Press table K-15 (between Keith Knight and Bob the Angry Flower). He will be selling limited-edition prints of his New Yorker cartoons.
Black Inc! Imprints/Hometown Productions (Robert & Yumi Roach) will be at Booth #2304. On Friday and Saturday, Robert Roach and Quinn McGowan will hold “Kaiju Hour” at the booth, along with Hiroshi Kanatani and other surprise guests.
Writer/producer Craig Miller will be at Small Press table Small Press K-13. He’ll have copies of his first book, Star Wars Memories, and his brand-new book, More Movie Memories. He’ll also have Star Wars crew patches, buttons, and other collectible items from his collection for sale.
Writer Russell Nohelty will be at Small Press Table G-03 with Jessica Maison from Wicked Tree Press.
Broken Oar Comics will be at Small Press Table Q-05! Expect to find creator/writer Nicholas Doan, artist Bobby Timony, and writer Sara Silver at the booth throughout the weekend.

Regular SDCC exhibitor Randy Reynaldo will be at his usual location at Small Press Booth K-1 with the milestone 25th issue of his long-running globetrotting action series, Rob Hanes Adventures. For this special issue, Rob travels back to pre-World War II China and teams up with some of the great soldiers of fortune of yesteryear (or at least close facsimiles of them!). Randy is a 2018 recipient of SDCC’s Inkpot Award for Achievements in Comic Art. All back issues and special free giveaways will be available.
Writer Steven Prince will be at Small Press table M-03 (under the 2510 Press banner) with copies of Monster Matador.
Arthur N. Ebuen (Studio 12-7) will be at DD-05 in Artists’ Alley all week with copies of the series ©ALIFORNIA, INC. He will also be doing a signing launch at Now or Never Comics on Friday, July 26, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and will be on the panel, “It All Starts with a Word,” on Saturday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at 29CD.
