NEW YORK, July 8th, 2013 – Seattle based publisher Allegory has picked up the epic post-apocalyptic humor comic, KATRINA HATES THE DEAD by Russell Nohelty (Ichabod Jones: Monster Hunter) and newcomer artist sensation, Juan Frigeri, as an extremely limited edition graphic novel at SDCC 2013.
This beautiful, 120+ page OGN features the entire first story arc of KATRINA, from her humble beginnings hacking zombies in the dirty alleyways of her backwater home town, to her rising up and challenging Satan himself in the bowels of ach-ee-double-hockey-sticks.
Katrina Hates the Dead is a tongue-in-cheek look at how surviving the Apocalypse may suck donkey balls but it’s not the end of the world.
Creator and writer, Russell Nohelty, will be present on July 19th and 20th (Friday and Saturday) to sign the limited edition books, interact with fans, and conduct interviews.
“How many stories about the Apocalypse, or the post-Apocalypse, have you read in the last year alone? A lot, right?” quips Russell. “And each time the story kicks off just as the Apocalypse starts and follows the immediate consequences, right? That’s where Katrina’s different. Here, the Apocalypse is old news. The chosen we raptured years ago. Life sucks for those remaining on Earth. Demons and monsters run rampant, there’s nothing but rancid food, no hope and no chance for salvation. Basically, humans are screwed. And in all this mayhem, despair, and horror, one girl gets so fed up she decides to take on The Devil himself and bring him down a peg.”
Nohelty produced the critically-acclaimed horror book ICHABOD JONES: MONSTER HUNTER last year, but Allegory believes that KATRINA is the book that will put the scribe on the map.
“This is Russell’s breakout work, no question. It starts humble, slice-of-life character-driven stuff before plowing into insanely epic territory before the back cover is reached. It’s funny, it’s moving, it’s action packed, and has loads of zombies, demons, the one and only capital-“G” God, the Devil, you name it. It’s the complete package. Plus there’s that a shocker of an ending!” said Chad Smith, CEO of Allegory.
The SDCC Limited Edition of Katrina will feature an exclusive cover by series artist Juan Frigeri. Juan hails from the world of video games, having worked on the Street Fighter franchise and other high profile projects, but this is his very first comic book. Juan is quickly becoming red hot in his home base of Argentina, so pick up Katrina and say you were in on the ground floor before he became a staple of the comics world.
No date has yet been set for the official widespread released of Katrina, so fans wanting to pick up the book without waiting indefinitely should make sure to hit Allegory’s booth, #1621, as quick as they can. Only 100 copies are planned and then that’s IT, she’s all gone!
ABOUT RUSSELL NOHELTY
Russell’s a Swiss army writer, through and through. If there’s a medium that requires the written word, he’s been in there like swimwear. Movies, TV, web series, commercials, promo videos, newspaper articles, websites copy, reviews, trailers, industrials – he’s done it all.Â
But his real passion is in writing books, both graphic and traditional. His first graphic novel, ICHABOD JONES: MONSTER HUNTER, garnered virtually unanimous critical praise.
His first traditional novel, GUMSHOES: THE CASE OF MADISON’S FATHER, will be released November of 2013 through Oaklight Publishing, with a second novel soon to follow in 2014.
