AFI Night at the Movies 2013

AFI Night at the Movies 2013One of the nice things about being a film geek and living in Southern California is all of the great movie events that get staged here.  With that in mind, here’s a heads-up for movie fans living in the greater Los Angeles area.  On Wednesday, April 24, the American Film Institute will be presenting AFI Night at the Movies.  According to a press release, the evening “is an event of extraordinary scale with classic American films spanning five decades screening on a single night – each with an introduction by the film’s star or filmmaker. Mystery, drama, romance, horror, science fiction, and animated family entertainment will all be represented.”

Films being screened include Blade Runner (with Harrison Ford on hand to introduce), Pulp Fiction (presented by Samuel L. Jackson), John Carpenter’s remake of The Thing (introduced by Kurt Russell), Ghost (with Demi Moore), Easy Rider (with Peter Fonda), Misery (with Kathy Bates), and The Usual Suspects (with Kevin Spacey).  A total of 12 films will be screened.

The event takes place at the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood (6360 W. Sunset Blvd.), and all screenings will begin at 7:00 p.m.   Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are on sale now and cost $30, which includes soda and popcorn.
