For geeks of the comic book variety, comic book conventions are the be-all and end-all of events; they are like combining birthdays, Christmas, Hanukkah, and all of the secular, gift-giving holidays into one. Comic book conventions combine the chance to meet our favorite creators with the opportunity to find one-of-a-kind issues and memorabilia, all while doing so alongside our geeky brethren and sistren. We adore comic book conventions and count the days to the next one with joyous fervor. While the Fanboy Comics crew often brings its readers news on the upcoming conventions in Southern California, we are excited to bring our readers across the pond an update on an UK-based convention!
Ireland’s longest running comic event, The 2D Comics Festival, will return to Derry/Londonderry this year from May 30 – June 2, 2013! This special edition of the show will be the largest comics event ever held in Northern Ireland. It will feature an expanded selection of workshops, panels, talks, and exhibitions, catering to readers of all ages. In addition, the first two days of the convention will feature a wide range of educational and industry guests.
Want to know the most amazing part of this convention? IT’S FREE! The 2D Festival is free to attend to the public, and all of the workshops and panels are free, as well! In fact, even sketches from the artists in attendance are free!
A number of exciting guests have already been confirmed for the show, including Andy Diggle (writer of Batman, Daredevil), Jock (artist of Losers, Batman), Roger Langridge (writer/artist of Popeye, The Muppets), and legendary comic book artist Mick McMahon (Judge Dredd, Slaine). For a full list of guests, please visit the 2D website, 2dfestival.com.
We hope that FBC’s UK readers will enjoy this wonderful convention and will encourage it to run for years to come! For more information on the 2D Comics Festival, please visit the official website (2dfestival.com) and visit the group on Facebook and Twitter, @2DComicsFest.
