Darwin DayFebruary 12, 2013

The Staff of Fanboy Comics would like to wish you and yours a Happy International Darwin Day!  On this special day, just over 200 years ago, evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin was born, and we want to do our part to celebrate his life and his work.  (PS: Abraham Lincoln was born on the same day . . . but he will have his own holiday next week.  Let’s give Darwin his own moment in the spotlight.)

According to the International Darwin Day Foundation (IDDF), which celebrates Darwin, science, and humanity, “Darwin Day is an international celebration of science and humanity held on or around February 12. Specifically, it celebrates the discoveries and life of Charles Darwin — the man who first described biological evolution via natural selection with scientific rigor. More generally, Darwin Day expresses gratitude for the enormous benefits that scientific knowledge, acquired through human curiosity and ingenuity, has contributed to the advancement of humanity.”  The IDDF website provides a multitude of resources that share information on Charles Darwin and his work, as well as practical examples of how to host and celebrate your own Darwin Day events and activities.

Unsure how to celebrate International Darwin Day in style?  How about sending your friends a Darwin Day eCard?  Or, contact your Congressional Representative to share your support for H. Res. 41, which would designate February 12th as Darwin Day.

I hope that you will join Fanboy Comics in celebrating this special day.  (If nothing else, Darwin Day will give you the opportunity to randomly exclaim “Science!” throughout the day.  It’s the little things . . . )

Sincerely,
Barbra J. Dillon
