Fanbase Press is excited to announce that Quince: The Definitive Bilingual Edition hardcover has been named as a finalist for the 2020 International Latino Book Awards (via Empowering Latino Futures) in the Graphic Novel category.  The International Latino Book Awards aim to recognize greatness in literature, honoring authors, translators, and illustrators for books written in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.  The ceremony for the 22nd annual International Latino Book Awards will take place virtually on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 3 p.m./PT.  The Emcee for the Awards Ceremony will be Edward James Olmos.  At the ceremony, winners will be named for first and second place, as well as an honorable mention. 



Quince is an Eisner Award-nominated 15-issue comic book series that follows a year in the life of Lupe, a 15-year-old girl who discovers that her quinceañera brings with it a super cool party . . . and superpowers. Emphasizing diversity, family, and female empowerment, Quince’s creative team includes creator Sebastian Kadlecik (Penguins vs. Possums), Kit Steinkellner (writer – Sorry for Your Loss, Z: The Beginning of Everything), Emma Steinkellner (artist – The Okay Witch, Pow Slam Sparkle), translator Valeria Tranier (The Maze Runner, Friday Night Lights, Doctor Who), and graphic designer Oceano Ransford (The Sequels, A Geek’s Guide to Cross-Stitch, Rikki). 



Quince: The Definitive Bilingual Edition oversized hardcover collects the full English and Spanish editions of the series, as well as forewords by Gloria Calderón Kellett (Executive Producer/Showrunner/Director/Actor, One Day at a Time) and Peter Murrieta (Executive Producer/Showrunner/Writer, Mr. Iglesias), an academic essay by Frederick Luis Aldama (Distinguished University Professor and Eisner Award-winning author of Latinx Superheroes in Mainstream Comics), a study guide by Dr. Theresa Rojas (Professor, Modesto Junior College), an art gallery Javier Hernandez (El Muerto), Sabrina Cintron (The Witches’ Grimoire, La Borinqueña), Malena Bonilla (Twitter: @Malbondesigns, Instagram: @malbondesigns), and Jose Cabrera, and a heartfelt letter to the reader by creator Sebastian Kadlecik.

Earlier this year, Quince: The Definitive Bilingual Edition was named a winner in the 2020 Independent Publisher (IPPY) Awards.  In addition, the series, Quince, was the winner of the 2018 IPPY Award and has been nominated for a 2018 Eisner Award, the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity, the Cybils Award, and the Excellence in Graphic Literature Award.
